- Hi,
-
- I've been using a USR Sportster 28.8 for a few months now. I don't use it very
- often, but I have a recurrent problem: the modem always connects OK the first
- time I call my ISP, runs OK for some time (5-15 min) then disconnects (this is
- not a time-out, it will stop in the middle of receiving). If I try to
- reconnect, it fails to make contact with the modem at the other end - the ISP
- answers OK, but then fails to establish a connection. I can try reconnecting
- 10-20 times with no success. I don't believe that the problem is with the
- ISP's modem, as colleagues using the same service have no problem.
-
- I've heard that some early Sportsters had problems with downward spiralling
- speeds, but my modem connects OK at 28.8 or fails completely. I feel that the
- symptoms I've described are compatible with an overheating component - has this
- been described for these modems in the past? I'm afraid I haven't followed
- comp.dcom.modems at all until now.
-
- Any suggestions?
-
- Thanks - Andy
